chapters 4-7 Hot Steams

How did Jem get even with Scout for contradicting him about "Hot Steams?" Was this fair? What does this say about their relationship?

Jem got even with Scout for contradicting him about the "Hot Steams" by pushing her really hard down the road in a tire. I do not think this is fair. Scout could have gotten heavily injured, and I think it was just luck that she was not. All Scout did was contradict him about a superstition. To me, this says that they are in good terms with each other, but they are still very young and have a lot to learn. Jem does not know that he has to think more before acting. Personally, I think that Jem was just acting very childishly.

When Scout contradicted Jem about the "Hot Steams" she was talking to Dill and told him that it was African-american talk(she didn't quite use those words but I believe that those are the most correct ones in today's time period). Jem then got revange on her by pushing the tire extra hard down the road. I don't believe that is a punishment because you want to be pushed extra hard. But on the other side it was also pretty dangerous since he might never quite reach up to her. But it was another important event in the story that she landed on the Radley's front porch.

I agree with what both Uin and Yannick said. I also think that this action was unfair from Jem. Since he is older and bigger than Scout, he should know that it is pretty dangerous to push someone very hard. Even though it could have frustrated him, he should have thought about what would occur to Scout. Just as Uin said, it is only a superstition. It should not be such a great deal. Since Jem is growing up, I understand that he does not want to be defied by a little girl, especially by his own sister, but he should have thought of the accidents that can occur.

I agree with what Uin, Yannick and Sora said. I disagree with Jem's decision on pushing her extra hard down the tire, because she might have been hurt. "Hot Steams" is only a superstition, well nobody, in the right mind could actually belive that something sucks your soul away. Jem shoul be more mature about it and should not get angry on something he also knows is not true.

Jem got even with Scout by pushing her really hard down the road when she was in a tire. This happened because Scout contradicted Jem about a superstition. I believe this is not fair because violence is never the right way. Scout could have gotten harshly injured so it was a wrong thing to do. Their relationship is good, but Jem did it because he does not want to be defied by a little girl. They both have a lot to grow.
